Theme for this month: Jesus in the Four Gospels
Theme for this week: Jesus in the Gospel of Mark
December 3, 2021 Friday)
(From Harmony of the four gospels:) “Holy Week:” Monday, the Triumphal Entry. Tuesday, the cleansing of the Temple, Wednesday, the anointing for burial by Mary of Bethany, Thursday, the upper room and Jesus’ commandment to “love one another,’ Friday, the trials, crucifixion, and burial.
The day that Jesus was crucified and buried is called, “Good Friday,” because Jesus’ death paid the full price in His own blood for all the sins of all people as He delivered Himself into the hands of His Father in Heaven.
The Gospel of Mark is the shortest account of Jesus’ ministry, but, even that brevity had to allow more than a third of his gospel to describe Jesus final week in Jerusalem and His death, burial and resurrection.
The Messiah did not come to become an earthly king ruling the world from Jerusalem. He came to die for each and every one of us. He came to establish a spiritual kingdom in the hearts of all those who receive Him as Savior and Lord.
“After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it” (Mark 16:19-20 NIV).
