Born from Above to Love Our Christian Family

Theme for week: Born from Above to Love

November 18, 2021 (Thursday)

Early Christians were made recognizable by their actions. Aristedes, sent by Emperor Hadrian during the days of the early Church to scope out those known as “Christians,” gave a report and these ending words have stood the test of time. “Behold, how they love one another.” *

Family of God

We love our families. They are precious to us. Even when we may have disagreements with each other at home, we are quick to defend the reputations of our mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and all our family members. The defense we make in their behalf comes naturally because we are related by blood. We are part of each other.

The Christian soon discovers that through faith in Jesus we have become part of a Christian family, related through the precious blood of Christ that covers all our sins. Gaither’s song, “Family of God,” includes this verse: “You will notice we say “brother and sister” ’round here, It’s because we’re a family and these are so near; When one has a heartache, we all share the tears, And rejoice in each victory in this family so dear”
