The song, “Farther Along,” puts into words the thoughts and feelings of those who are going through tough times in their lives and wonder why there seem to be so many who are doing well even though they seem to be ignoring God by living sinfully.
The Psalmist seemed to express similar thoughts when he wrote, “My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?'”
In the midst of his suffering, the singer of this song says, “We’ll understand it all bye and bye.” Thoughts of a coming day of peace and rest soothe our pain today.
Someday He’ll make it plain to me, Someday when I His face shall see; Someday from tears I shall be free, For someday I shall understand. Lida S. Leech, 1911 |
Rev. W. A. Fletcher 1911 Tempted and tried we’re oft’ made to wonder Why it should be thus all the day long While there are others living about us Never molested, though in the wrong Farther along we’ll know more about it Farther along we’ll understand why Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine We’ll understand it all by and by When death has come and taken our loved ones Leaving our homes so lonely and drear Then do we wonder how others prosper Living so wicked year after year Farther along we’ll know more about it Farther along we’ll understand why Cheer up my brother live in the sunshine We’ll understand it all by and by |
