Lead Me to Some Soul Today

Theme this week: Channels of Blessing

October 11, 2021 (Monday)

The apostle, Paul, in Romans 1:14-17 (MSG translation), said,

“Everyone I meet —- it matters little whether they’re mannered or rude, smart or simple —- deepens my sense of interdependence and obligation. And that’s why I can’t wait to get to you in Rome, preaching this wonderful good news of God. It’s news I’m most proud to proclaim, this extraordinary Message of God’s powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts him, starting with Jews and then right on to everyone else! God’s way of putting people right shows up in the acts of faith, confirming what Scripture has said all along: “The person in right standing before God by trusting him really lives.”

In the early 1900s a young Scotsman by the name of Aguilla Webb stood up in a meeting in Hamilton, Canada, and gave the following testimony:

“I am a survivor of the Titanic. When I was drifting alone on a spar that awful night, the tide brought Mr. John Harper of Glasgow, also on a piece of wreck, near me. ‘Man,’ he said, ‘Are you saved?’ ‘No,’ I said, ‘I am not.’ He replied, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.’ The waves bore him away; but, strange to say brought him back a little later, and he said, ‘Are you saved now?’ ‘No,’ I said, ‘I cannot honestly say that I am.’ He said again, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,’ and shortly after he went down; and there, alone in the night, and with two miles of water under me, I believed. I am John Harper’s last convert.”

We need a passion for the souls of people, all of whom shall meet God face to face some day. Our first thought about others is, “Is he/she prepared to meet God?” Those of us who are saved by the grace of the Lord are “debtors to all,” as Paul said. Someone showed us the way to Eternal Life, and we are obligated to share the good news of salvation in Christ.

LEAD ME TO SOME SOUL TODAY
Author: Will Henry Houghton
circa 1902

Lead me to some soul today,
Oh, teach me Lord just what to say,
Friends of mine are lost in sin
And cannot find their way.

Few there are who seem to care,
And few there are who pray.
Melt my heart and fill my life,
Give me one soul today.
