Blessed by God’s Grace

Theme this week: Songs of Marvelous Grace

October 4, 2021 (Monday)

Yesterday would have been our 68th wedding anniversary if Wanda had lived. But, sadly, she passed away in 2002. Since then our family has continued to grow. Recently my children, grandchildren, and one great grandchild joined me in celebration of my 90th birthday at a party graciously given by my sweet sister, Brenda Jones, and her loving husband, James. Wanda and I started out in 1953 with two people in love, and that number has now grown to twenty-five, three of whom have died. Most of those traveled to Rockport and joined the recent celebration. (Marital arithmetic: 1+1=25!).

We have a Grandfather’s Clock in our home. As I looked at it on my ninetieth birthday, I was reminded that the good old song about a Grandfather’s Clock boasted that it was bought on the day the old man was born and “stopped, short, never to go again, when the old man died” at ninety. Well, as of today, I’ve been allowed to exceed the “old man’s” age by ten days — Hallelujah!

The Bible says the days of our lives number threescore and ten (70). Well, people live longer these days and, like many of you, I passed that goal years ago. I’m not complaining, just thanking the Lord, because, as the Bible says, “my times are in His hand.” In other words, God is in control of all things, and we must always believe that with our whole heart.

Jesus told us that we shall give an account of our days. Our accounting will not be about how long, but how well, we have lived. That’s a solemn thought, isn’t it?

Jesus warned us that all of humanity will be divided into two groups at judgment: “sheep and goats,” which is a dramatic way of saying, “saved and lost.” By His grace He has made me one of the saved, because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. Have you accepted Him? If not, you can be saved this very day by turning away from sin and self and turning to Jesus in faith. Please, do it today.

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.’ Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” (Romans 10:9-13 NLT).

SAVED, SAVED
Author: Jack P. Scholfield
1911

I’ve found a Friend, who is all to me,
His love is ever true;
I love to tell how He lifted me
And what His grace can do for you.
Refrain:
Saved by His pow’r divine,
Saved to new life sublime!
Life now is sweet and my joy is complete,
For I’m saved, saved, saved!

He saves me from every sin and harm,
Secures my soul each day;
I’m leaning strong on His mighty arm;
I know He’ll guide me all the way.
Refrain

When poor and needy and all alone,
In love He said to me,
“Come unto Me and I’ll lead you home,
To live with Me eternally.”
Refrain
