Like A River Glorious

September 5, 2021 (Sunday)

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NIV).

The inner peace that Jesus gives His children is perfect, yet becomes fuller and deeper every day. The peace He gives fully blesses our hearts and gives victory over anything that might rob us of it. He promises perfect peace and rest and we know He keeps His promises.

As we rest in the hollow of His hand, worries and cares have no power over us. Like a mighty, glorious river, His peace floods our souls. “They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.”

LIKE A RIVER GLORIOUS
Words: Frances R. Havergal

Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller ev’ry day;
Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.
Refrain:
Stayed upon Jehovah,
Hearts are fully blessed;
Finding, as He promised,
Perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.
(Refrain)

Ev’ry joy or trial falleth from above,
Trac’d upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully all for us to do;
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.
(Refrain)

(Today is the 73rd anniversary of my very first sermon in 1948, as I began my senior year of high school. The text was Philippians 2:5-11).
