My stepmother, Dorothy, became a Christian after marrying my father. She was reached for Christ by my Uncle Hobson and Aunt Mary, who invited her to church and witnessed to her. She became an active member and my sisters and I attended church with her. Uncle Hobson led the singing for their church, the Denver Assembly of God, and the song, “Hallelujah, We Shall Rise,” was one of his favorites. We sang it often. My cousin, Floyd, taught me how to sing bass.
After all these years, Baptists have learned how to sing that song. Our choir has sung it from time to time. It praises the Lord for His promise to raise the dead in Christ and take them home to Heaven. It joins the blog songs of recent days with joyful anticipation of the Lord’s return.
HALLELUJAH, WE SHALL RISE
Author, J. E. Thomas
1904
In the resurrection morning,
When the trump of God shall sound,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
When the saints will come rejoicing
And no tears will e’er be found
We shall rise, Hallelujah, we shall rise
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
In the resurrection morning,
What a meeting it will be,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
When our fathers and our mothers,
And our loved ones we shall see,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
In the resurrection morning,
We shall meet Him in the air,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
And be carried up to glory,
To our home so bright and fair,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
We shall rise
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise!
Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah!
In the resurrection morning,
When death’s prison bars are broken,
We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
We shall rise.
