Blessed Assurance

July 7, 2021 (Wednesday)

Jesus appeared to His disciples after He rose from the dead, but Thomas was not with them. When they told Thomas about the appearance of Jesus, he expressed doubts.

“A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

“Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:24-27 NIV).

Thomas was now assured that His faith was in a living Savior, and we, too, are assured that Jesus is our Savior.

Your and I have blessed assurance that we are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That assurance blesses us with a little taste of what awaits us in Heaven, where we will be with our Savior forever.

BLESSED ASSURANCE

Words by Fanny Crosby,
Tune by Mrs. Joseph Knapp
1873

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels, descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Chorus

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
Chorus
