The Apostles of Christ: Their Legacy

May 13, 2021 (Wednesday)

Today we are presenting a blog that summarizes the previous blogs about The Twelve Apostles of Christ. Some of them are well-known among Christians today and others are not so well-known. One failed the Lord by betraying Him, but all were chosen by the Lord Jesus to be his special followers. Christ must have been somewhat frustrated at their lack of understanding some of His parables and His prediction of His own death, burial and resurrection. They all seemed to expect Jesus to establish an earthly kingdom, ousting the Romans from their country and ruling an independent Israel from a throne in Jerusalem. Right up to the night before His crucifixion, they were arguing about which ones of their number would have thrones nearest to Jesus when He established the new Kingdom.

Even after His resurrection from the dead they were confused. But they fasted and prayed as He had instructed them to do. Ten days after His ascension to Heaven, the Holy Spirit came upon them in mighty power. Their doubts were expelled, their hearts were filled with His presence, and they became the witnesses they were meant to be.

From that awesome day, the Day of Pentecost, Believers had access to great spiritual power, which compelled them to witness to others about the love and grace of God based upon the redemption and salvation made possible by Jesus Christ. We have access to that power today. God’s word authorizes us to be “filled with the Spirit” and share the Good News that God loves us and wants all people to become part of His family. Amazing Grace! Full and free salvation. “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved!” (Acts 16:31).

Today millions of people around the world claim to know Jesus Christ as Savior. The Christian Faith began with a small number but that number has grown today to include all those who are committed to Christ. He gives Believers a sense of belonging and a reason to live.

The Family of God
Words: Gloria Gaither
Music: Bill Gaither
1960s

(1) You will notice we say “brother
and sister” ’round here-
It’s because we’re a family
and these folks are so near;
When one has a heartache
we all share the tears,
And rejoice in each victory
In this family so dear.

Chorus:
I’m so glad I’m a part
of the family of God-
I’ve been washed in the fountain,
cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus
as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
the family of God.

(2) From the door of an orphanage
to the house of the King-
No longer an outcast,
a new song I sing;
From rags unto riches,
from the weak to the strong,
I’m not worthy to be here,
But, praise God, I belong!-Chorus

I think you may enjoy this song as presented by the original Gaither Trio, recorded many years ago. Please watch in full screen:
