A new chapter in a 135-year-old church
NOVEMBER 26, 2007 (MONDAY) – “Oh, what a beautiful morning, Oh, what a beautiful day!”
The day looks good to many of us because our church, the First Baptist Church of Rockport, has a pastor. He preached yesterday in the morning worship services, answered questions in an afternoon session, and was called to pastor the church by vote of the church last evening. He accepted the call.
The new pastor and wife are Scott and Kimberlie Jones. They will move to Rockport from Sherman, Texas, where he has been pastor of a church for four years.
The spirit of the church — at worship, in the question and answer session, and at the called business meeting — was very sweet. For one and one-half hours the exchanges took place in a Christian atmosphere, as questions were asked and answered in an attitude and atmosphere of love.
Scott and Kim will begin their ministry here January 13, 2008. I will continue to serve as interim pastor until then.
Exciting and wonderful days are ahead for the Rockport congregation.
