I hope you, dear reader, will attend church services today, and Sunday School, too, because studying the Word of God is always beneficial to the soul. No week is complete without attendance at worship. I enjoy going to Sunday School, because the teachers wherever I attend always have studied hard and do their very best to present the lesson in a way that will bless and enrich my life. I always learn something at Sunday School.
Later today millions of people in North America will go to Phoenix, Arizona, via the television set, to see Super Bowl XLIX, the contest for NFL championship beween the Seattle Seahawks of the NFC and the New England Patriots of the AFC.
Maybe you would like to go to Phoenix today. There’s still time as I write this for you to hop a plane and grab a ticket. Tickets are available from resellers beginning at around $8000 each. Some are as much as $35,000, and others possibly even more.
Wanda and I went to Phoenix on the way home from the Southern Baptist Convention in 1989. It was so hot when we went to the zoo early that summer morning that the animals wouldn’t leave their hiding places, afraid of the sun. Later we walked to a mall across the street from our motel, and literally ran, hand in hand, from one shade to the next. Even if it gets that hot today in Phoenix, which, of course, it will not, you will be in a stadium that can close the roof and air condition itself for your comfort. I like those kinds of stadiums; the weather is always perfect.
There is a 30,000-square-feet shop in the convention center there, where you may buy all sorts of paraphernalia. Maybe deflated footballs will be reduced (in price). Whatever you buy will cost you top dollar, but who’s counting? You will be making memories (memories of the money you spent). As “they” (whoever that is) say, “Enjoy the game.”
If football is not your thing, cheer up. It will all soon be over for this season.
