Opening a Closed Mind

There is a television commercial that advertises a medication that promises to help patients with Type 2 Diabetes. Every time it comes on, I am fascinated by the music that accompanies the message. I wondered what the song was, so I looked it up on the internet. Googling for the name of the product, I found a site that gave the name of the song and the artists performing it. The song is, “The Walk of Life,” and the artists are Mark Knopfler and the band, Dire Straits. Having found that information, I looked up more information and before long I was listening with rapt attention to their music. Then I found a site on which Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler were performing together. Quite a treat.
So, after performing cybernetic detective work, I finally found a rock band that no longer performs together, but had been around since the 1970’s. I’ve been wearing blinders all these years.
I rejected all forms of rock music from the beginning, yet through the years I have found certain songs to be pleasing to my ancient ears. In recent years, I have become acquainted with the Eagles, and now Dire Straits, both of which produced music I like. Have I changed? Probably so, but mostly I think it’s just a matter of opening my closed mind to an entire genre of music I had shut out.
As I stated in a recent blog, I like virtually all kinds of music, depending upon my mood, I suppose. I wonder how many other things I have missed in life by refusing to open my mind.
