The Post-Resurrection Appearances of Jesus-The last appearance and ascension

April 16, 2021 (Friday)

After His resurrection, Jesus Christ appeared eleven times. The appearance discussed in this blog is The last appearance and ascension (Mark 16:19-20 Luke 24:50-53 Acts 1:9-12).

After the Lord Jesus had talked with them, he was taken up to heaven and sat at the right side of God. The disciples went and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and proved that their preaching was true by the miracles that were performed. (Acts 1:9-12)

Then he led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and blessed them. As he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up into heaven. They worshiped him and went back into Jerusalem, filled with great joy, and spent all their time in the Temple giving thanks to God. (Luke 24:50-53).

After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as he went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go to heaven.” Then the apostles went back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is about half a mile away from the city. (Mar 16:19-20)

At the end of forty days following His Resurrection, Jesus had appeared eleven times. The sightings of Jesus have been the subjects of our blogs recently, closing with today’s blog. The song, “Jesus Is Coming Soon,” expresses the belief of many. As for me, I know it may be soon, but it may be a long time yet. We do not know. But as life becomes more complicated in so many ways, there is a longing in many hearts for something better. I don’t think we are told to keep our eye on the sky, but we are told to apply ourselves at the task at hand, and that is to witness daily of the the saving power of Jesus Christ and his power to make people’s lives better in every way. We do not know when He is coming again, but He is coming. And it will be wonderful.

JESUS IS COMING SOON
Author: R. E. Winsett

Troublesome times are here, filling men’s hearts with fear
Freedom we all hold dear now is at stake
Humbling your hearts to God saves from the chastening rod
Seek the way pilgrims trod, Christians awake

Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound

Troubles will soon be o’er, happy forevermore
When we meet on that shore, free from all care
Rising up in the sky, telling this world goodbye
Homeward we then shall fly, glory to share

Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound

Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound

Heavenward bound, heavenward bound
