Home

I love songs about home. “Home, home, home, sweet home, there’s no place like home.” “Take me home, country roads.” And how about, “Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard, life used to be so hard. now everything is easy ’cause of you”

We love sweet songs about home, because we idealize the thought in our minds, longing for the perfect place in this world. We may never find it, but we’ll keep on searching.

Yesterday’s blog quoted a wonderful hymn that included the statement “a sinner has come home.” I love those hymns that speak of salvation as our home, “Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling Oh sinner, come home.” “I wandered far away from God, now I’m coming home.”

Then there are the hymns that speak of Heaven as our home. “I’ll soon be at home over there, for the end of my journey I see; many dear to my heart over there are waiting and watching for me.” “Going home, going home, I am going home, shadows gone, break of day, real life has begun.”

We long for our Heavenly home: “On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye to Canaan’s fair and happy land where my possessions lie.”

Jesus spoke of “His Father’s House,” in which there are many rooms. We love the old King James version, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” Actually the word in the original is “dwelling places.” So, take your choice. If it’s a room, you know you have never, ever seen a room like it in this life. It is wonderful and marvelous. If it is a mansion, it will outshine any mansion you have ever even heard about. Something wonderful is being prepared for those who love the Lord. And you know who is preparing it for you? The Lord Jesus Himself. He said so (John 14).

WON’T IT BE WONDERFUL THERE?
Words: James Rowe
Music: Homer F. Morris
1930

When with the Savior we enter the glory land,
Won’t it be wonderful there?
Ended the troubles and cares of the storyland,
Won’t it be wonderful there?

Chorus:
Won’t it be wonderful there (wonderful there)
Having no burdens to bear? (Over there?)
Joyously singing with heart-bells all ringing,
O, won’t it be wonderful there? (Wonderful there?)

Walking and talking with Christ the supernal one,
Won’t it be wonderful there?
Praising, adoring the matchless eternal One,
Won’t it be wonderful there?
Chorus

There where the tempest will never be sweeping us
Won’t it be wonderful there?
Sure that forever the Lord will be keeping us,
Won’t it be wonderful there?
Chorus
