Make Someone Happy

The awful stock market crash of 1929 ushered in the Great Depression. The year, 1930, was filled with anxiety for many people and catastrophic for business, including show business. A 1930 Broadway musical featured a Dorothy Fields song, “On the Sunny Side of The Street,” which lifted the spirits of the audiences which saw and heard the production. Here’s how it begins:

Grab your coat and get your hat,
Leave your worries on the doorstep.
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street.

This week’s blogs have been about brightening up the world with your own thoughts, words and deeds. A happy person makes others happy. Happiness is contagious.
As this song says, “Life can be complete on the sunny side of the street.”
Another song comes to mind, composed by Jule Styne and made popular by Jimmy Durante, called “Make Someone Happy.” The last lines of this song are: “Make someone happy, make just one someone happy, and you will be happy, too.” Folks, this is very true. Turning someone’s frown into a smile is one of life’s most satisfying experiences.
