The book of Colossians, written by the Apostle Paul, exalts and honors Jesus Christ. Though Paul had never visited Colosse, he knew and loved members of that church and was aware of a serious heresy that new leaders had brought into the church, greatly hindering its progress. Known as the Gnostic Heresy, it is a system of beliefs that promoted immorality and attempted to limit the authority and saving power of Jesus. Paul wrote to oppose these beliefs. He said that we have everything in Christ, that He is the agent of creation and the only one who can forgive our sins and bring us to God.
Colossians – a devotional thought
A host of new and old beliefs that dishonor Jesus Christ are still with us today. Let us not allow any belief that Jesus was “just another man” to gain a hold on our minds and hearts. He is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” Let us join with Simon Peter in saying to Jesus, “Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you!”
