Nahum was from the northern kingdom, but it is thought that he escaped to Judah as Assyria closed in on Israel, to destroy it forever. Nahum’s message is one of severe judgment against Assyria, the enemy of God. Nahum’s message is different from the rest of the prophets in that he never mentions Judah. Jonah would have loved Nahum’s message of unrelenting judgment upon Ninevah.
Nahum – A devotional thought
Kingdoms rise and fall; such is their history. Assyria was one of the most cruel nations that ever existed. Now they must pay. They had plundered and destroyed other nations; it was their turn to be plundered and destroyed. “We reap what we sow” is a truth for nations as well as individuals.
