Wind Beneath My Wings

February 9, 2021 (Tuesday)

The hymns featured in the previous three blogs are not hymns, yet their messages have a spiritual ring to them and they seem almost to be religious songs. Today’s blog falls into that category.

The song, “Wind Beneath My Wings,” praises a friend whose love has always been present and strong. The singer then proceeds to declare that the real hero of this pair is the one who lived in the shadow of the famous one.

I knew a preacher who told me his calling into the ministry was to help a great pastor in every way he could. The two were friends; one was well-known and admired while the brother of whom I speak remained always in the background, helping his hero in many ways. Such great love. Real love for another person always behaves this way. “If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him” (1 Corinthians 13:7 TLB).

In Philippians 2, we are told that Jesus humbled himself in order to be our Savior. We are advised to have the mind of Christ.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that’s your way
You always walked a step behind

So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain

Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I’ve got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you

Did you ever know that you’re my hero?
You’re everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

Did I ever tell you you’re my hero?
You’re everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
‘Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
Oh, the wind beneath my wings

You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings
