The newest Biblically based movie is “Noah.” The public has been informed in advance that the movie is based upon the Bible, but not an exact reproduction of what the Bible says. The publicity shown on T.V. demonstrates the ability of the movie-making industry to utilize special effects to create awesome events that seem absolutely real.
The account of Noah in the Bible tells us that the people of the world adopted a morality that ignored God’s will, that “every man did what was right in his own eyes.” God then destroyed the existing civilization with a flood that covered the earth. Only Noah, his ark, the animals he saved, and his family were spared.
Noah’s experience teaches us that sin is serious and will be punished. It also teaches us that God did not give up entirely on the human race, because Noah and his family were spared. He was a righteous man who became the heart of a virtual new creation.
When the rainbow appeared as the flood subsided, God told us to accept it as a sign that He would not destroy the world with a flood again. He still punishes sin, however, and rewards the people who love and serve Him.
One would think that we who are alive today would want to please God and enjoy His blessing. Many people do. We have a choice, and many today no longer believe in God, and many others have distorted views of how God wants us to live. A wonderful hymn allows us to sing words of wisdom: “Living for Jesus a life that is true, striving to please Him in all that we do, yielding allegiance glad-hearted and free, this is the pathway of blessing for me.”
