The 2014 Winter Olympics have begun.
The Olympics date back to ancient Greece in the 8th Century B.C. They continued until the 4th Century A.D. when they were discontinued until the late 1800’s. Today they draw much attention and cities around the world bid for hosting the events, which occur every 2 years, alternating between summer events and winter events.
The athletes are the greatest in the world, with teams from most nations. The best of the best are presented to the world.
This year’s Olympics are held in Russia and strong security measures are in place to prevent terrorist activities. Fears of such are widespread. Let us all pray that the games will be conducted in peace in keeping with the undergirding purpose of focusing on positive achievement.
In olden times, one had to travel to Mount Olympus to view the games. Today, we can see all the events in beautiful color, accompanied by high fidelity stereophonic surround sound, on our very own television sets without ever leaving our own homes, no matter where we live. If you prefer going to Sochi personally, I hear it will cost you and your family around $4000 to $5000 each for one week if you shop wisely for airline tickets, hotel prices, etc. It’s a little late to think about going, so dust off your TV set and enjoy it with your favorite snacks.
