Conversation

Today people in many places are waking up to snow, ice, sleet, strong north winds, and temperatures so low they are dangerous. As temperatures hover near the freezing mark, even South Texas is in the picture.
But let us not forget that Saturday marks the beginning of February, which is usually a fairly mild month as far as weather is concerned. January has only three more days to maintain its icy stranglehold. Hopefully, February will be kinder to us.
The weather will always give us something to talk about. That’s the nicest thing about it–it encourages conversations, many of which are between strangers.
A gospel song that became very popular for several years was “People Need the Lord.” It reminds us that opportunities to speak with people, however briefly and casually, is one of life’s greatest privileges. Parts of it go like this: “Every day they pass me by, I can see it in their eyes. Empty people filled with care, Headed who knows where? On they go through private pain, Living fear to fear. Laughter hides their silent cries, Only Jesus hears. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. At the end of broken dreams, He’s the open door. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. When will we realize, people need the Lord?” (written by Greg Nelson and Phil McHugh, sung by Steve Green).
