I know we are not experiencing weather as cold as that in much of the country, but although temperatures in the 30’s are not comparable to temperatures below zero, brought by the “Polar Vortex” to other areas, it’s still cold, and “not my cup of tea.”
Having said that, our hearts go out to those being affected by the coldest weather in the USA in 20 years, bringing power outages and preventing people from getting out of their snowbound homes, not to mention the economic effects as businesses close and normal commerce comes to a standstill. The severe cold, snow and ice has caused deaths and much suffering. Those folks would settle quickly for precipitation-free days with temps in the 30’s. So please forgive me for complaining.
When some professional football players were bemoaning having to play in weather that brought wind chills below zero, Coach Mike Ditka was heard on TV saying, “Suck it up! Play football!” Ditka’s a veteran player who coached the Chicago Bears so we would not expect him to offer sympathy and coddle the athletes.
Speaking of football, all the bowl games and playoff games have been exciting and worth watching this year. The BCS Championship game between Florida State and Auburn was not disappointing in any way whatsoever, especially at the close of the Fourth Quarter, when the lead went back and forth between two great teams. Auburn led throughout most of the game but watched victory slip from its hands as Florida State won the national championship.
