Our God

December 3, 2020 (Thursday)

The word, “God” appears 4094 times in the Bible.* “Their God”-368. “Your God”-379. “My God”-578, and the phrase of choice in this blog, “Our God,” appears 370 times.

There is no difference between “My God” and “Your God.” We are talking about the same God. But, are we, really? God never changes, but our ideas about Him are not all the same. Each of us sees God through his or her own eyes. As an example, think of David and Goliath. The day that David, the boy, showed up to fight Goliath dawned over an entire army whose God was not strong enough to defeat the giant. At least that’s the way they saw Him. David saw God as completely powerful enough to defeat the enemy. You know the rest of the story.

When we choose to say, “Our God,” we are attempting to get together in how we see our God. Hopefully, we all see Him as described in the box below. He is all that and more. So let us renounce all our ideas about a God who is far away, remembering that He lives within each of us. Our God will see us through whatever trial we may be facing today.

God is willing to wield all His power in our lives; it is our faith that determines how much power that is. How big is your God? How big is my God? How big is our God? As the praise chorus says, “Our God is an awesome God. He reigns from Heaven above with wisdom, power and love. Our God is an awesome God.” **

Our God

Our God is God of Goodness. He is always helping us.

Our God is God of Grace, the only explanation of His love for us.

Our God is God of Genius. He always finds a way, even when it seems there is none.

Our God is God of Generosity. He freely blesses us.

Our God is God of Growth. He always is giving more.

Our God is God of Greatness. Blessed is the people whose God is the LORD.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Words: Thomas Chisholm
Music: W.M. Runyan
1923

Great is Thy faithfulness
O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not
Thy compassions they fail not
As Thou hast been
Thou forever will be

Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
And all I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord unto me

Pardon for sin
And a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer
And to guide
Strength for today
and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside

Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord every morning new mercies I see
And all I have needed Thy hands hath
provided
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord unto me
So faithful too me
