A New Season

“What a wonderful world”

Today is the first day of summer, although we have already been treated to some very “summery” days, with hot weather day after day.
The earth tilts on its axis, making the seasons possible. From our point of view the sun’s direct rays appear to move north and south in our annual trek around the sun. Each year this creates four seasons on the earth.
The advantages of having seasons are so great that life without them would not be possible on earth. The phenomenon of seasonal weather is only one of many factors that make life on earth possible. A thorough study of such matters makes one very aware of the many conditions necessary for life to exist on earth.
Thus far in our studies of the heavens, the vastness of space and the innumerable multitude of galaxies with billions of stars have led scientists to the conclusion that life will someday be discovered elsewhere. That may be so, but as of today life as we know it has not been found anywhere but here on earth. You and I live in a special place in the universe.
Let us be thankful for the world God has created. Let us be thankful that we are alive in it. Beyond that, let us thank God for blessing us in so many ways.
Finally, and most importantly, let us be thankful that God loves us and has made eternal life available to each and every one of us, “for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John3:16-17 NIV).

Devotional Thought: We love Him because He first loved us.
