“I thank God for allowing me to be here now”–A San Antonio celebrity

San Antonio is in the news these days as their NBA Basketball team, the Spurs, contends for another national title.
I heard San Antonio news at lunch yesterday as a recent visitor to the city showed me pictures and raved about the River Walk there. And the Riverwalk Mall, bigger and better than ever these days. The pictures were indeed impressive.
When in H.E.B. a few days back, I decided to buy some coffee beans and chose H.E.B.’s “Taste of Old San Antonio” flavor. Maybe it’s just my opinion, but I have been very pleased with it. Tastes different in a good way. At least to me.
On my way back home from visiting a patient in a San Antonio hospital, while still in the city limits there, I was stopped and given a ticket. I was upset and in my irrational self- pity declared to my dear friend, Eddie Bradley, that the ticket was not fair because I was “on a mission of mercy.” That was probably 40 years ago, but Eddie hasn’t stopped laughing yet, I’m sure.
Spanish explorers named the river in 1691 and the town grew from missions established as early as 1718. The city is famous the world over for the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. You might say that “all roads lead to San Antonio,” because it is on three Interstates, five U.S. Highways, numerous state highways, an International airport, two freight railroads and two AMTRAK trains. It is one of America’s greatest military cities. It has thrilling theme parks.
Many people who live there also own homes in Rockport. It’s a great place to visit, and also an exciting place to live. Go, Spurs!
