Time for Worship

November 1, 2020 (Sunday)

The Book of Acts describes how, after Jesus’ resurrection, his disciples prayed until one day (the Day of Pentecost) the Holy Spirit fell on them and they began to testify in other languages. By the end of the day 3,000 people had turned to Christ in faith. Most, if not all, of them were Jewish people. Thousands more were soon converted. As Jews, they observed the Sabbath as they had done all their lives. But, as Christians, they met the following day also to worship God as the One who has sent His Son into the world to bring salvation to all.

As the gospel spread throughout the world, people other than Jews accepted Christ and they met on the first day of the week only. They had no Jewish background, but they knew that their Savior had risen from the dead on the first day of the week, and so that is when they worshiped together.

We have continued that custom. As Christians, most of us worship on Sunday. Today is Sunday, so let us worship. Some will do that by being present at their church. Others will watch online (some of those will be watching from other states). But we will all worship together. We are “one in the Spirit.”
