“Use a picture. It’s worth a thousand words.” – Editor Arthur Brisbane, 1911
Hey, there, did you know that today, April 8, is DABDay?
DABDay is short for Draw A Bird Day, a movement that got its start in England in the 1940’s.
DABDay is a day when people all over the world draw birds. These images are then shared with others. At first, only pencil drawings were allowed, but later one could also use crayons. Inventions such as the internet have opened a huge path to sharing with many people.
Here’s a picture drawn by a child:
If you want to join in, you have to draw a picture (not copy it, etc.) and, yes this is one of the rules, the drawing must contain a bird. It can be a very bad picture–that doesn’t matter, because it’s not a contest. It’s about joy.
