Wherever He Leads I’ll Go

The Bible book, Hebrews, features a chapter (11) that has come to be known as “The Roll Call of Faith,” as faithful servants of God are named one after another. Then the entire group is summoned to cheer us on (Hebrews 12:1) in our journey of faith, encouraging us by their example. Since then, their number has expanded to include thousands of people who gave Christ their all, following wherever He led them throughout their lives. Many of them gave their lives as martyrs as the Enemy struck them down, only to “rise again” in influence and example. Like Abel of old, they speak today to us who strive to walk in their footsteps, following Jesus wherever He leads.

Many of us have our own list of “heroes of the faith” who have personally meant much to us as we have sought to follow Jesus. They may not be well known, and their names never mentioned in the history books, but they showed us the way, praying for us, teaching us, showing us how to walk the walk and talk the talk of a genuine follower of Jesus. They showed us how to say, “Wherever He leads I’ll go,” and mean every word.

The old hymn reminds us of our life’s mission: “Footsteps of Jesus that make the pathway glow. We will follow the steps of Jesus wherever we go.”
