“Gray is the new blond and 50 is the new 30”–Houston Aging Experts

A new course to help seniors will be offered in Houston. “Among many topics, the new partnerships will produce classes on stroke prevention, cardiac health, managing stress, romance as a senior, how baby boomers will change the way society views aging issues, anxiety, medications and supplements, depression, preventive health care, maintaining a positive perception on the aging process, memory enhancement, dementia, maximizing your brain’s potential as you age, protecting your mind and the ‘Seven Jewels of Healthy Aging.’ Through the partnerships, there will also be classes on senior sexuality, grief and bereavement and mental health.”
Wow. I used to think that “aging” just means, “getting old.” There seems to be a lot more to it than that. I’m not sure what the “Seven Jewels of Healthy Aging” are, but I think they have something to do with diet and exercise. And maintaining social contacts. Also perhaps learning ways to avoid accidents, etc.
A highway patrolman pulled me over for a warning ticket a few years ago, and when he saw the birth date on my driver’s license,old%20car.man.jpg he said, “My dad was born the same year, and we don’t let him drive anymore.” When I renewed the license last year, I was not permitted to renew by mail, etc.–I had to report in person. Presumably, they wanted to get a good look at me up close to see if I could stand alone.
Life continues to be very interesting as long as we want it to be.
