End of Year

December 28, 2012 (Friday)
”picFor all practical purposes today is the last day of the year, because the remaining days are part of the long New Years Day weekend. So, are you thinking about your taxes? Are you worried that you will be taxed at a higher rate because you made at least $250,000 this year? Or, as was attempted, $1,000,000? Most of us, I think, are not concerned about that. Our hope is that we will not have to pay higher taxes on incomes smaller than the amounts discussed by our leaders.
I use a computer tax program to do my taxes each year, and the very modest price of the program includes e-filing, so when I think I’ve answered all the questions and reported all the information, I file the return electronically, and that’s that. I like it. I can recall getting a few of my tax returns wrong in past years simply because of arithmetic (before the age of readily-available calculators), but no more worries about that. So far it’s worked out fine. I gladly recommend the computer tax programs,if that idea works for you.
Jesus said, “Render to Caesar that which is his,” (or something like that), thereby giving his approval to the practice of paying taxes. For us here in the United States of America, it’s a bargain. All we need to do is visit some places around the world, and we’ll come home feeling better about everything here. As Irving Berlin put it so well, “God bless America, land that I love.”
