Serving the Savior a Long Time

September 25, 2020 (Friday)

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I’m glad you are still here. God has not yet called us home. One of the sad sides of growing old is the loss of friends and family who have gone on to Heaven. The longer we live, the fewer earthly friends remain. Yet, the longer we live, the longer we serve the Lord and the sweeter that relationship grows. The friends and family members who remain are more precious than ever. Our longevity seems to bind our hearts together more than ever, as we count our blessings and share our memories.

I wrote two blogs last April about the nine decades of my life. Links to those blogs can be found at the bottom of this page.

Growing old has been romanticized by poets as “the last of life for which the first was made.” Proverbs 16:31 NIV says, : “Gray hair is a crown of splendor.” I visited an elderly lady, a member of the church, in the hospital, and her estimation of old age was different from poetry or the Bible. She said, “Growing old is hell.” I suppose we have a choice in how we view our longevity.

Anyway, I’m grateful for coming this far and I just love having you come with me, or me with you, whatever the case may be.

THE LONGER I SERVE HIM THE SWEETER HE GROWS

The Longer I Serve Him
(The Sweeter He Grows)
Bill and Gloria Gaither
Date?

Since I started for the Kingdom,
Since my life He controls,
Since I gave my heart to Jesus,
The longer I serve Him,
The sweeter He grows.

Chorus
The longer I serve Him,
the sweeter He grows,
The more that I love Him,
more love He bestows;
Each day is like heaven,
my heart overflows,
The longer I serve Him,
the sweeter He grows.

Ev’ry need He is supplying,
Plenteous grace He bestows;
Ev’ry day my way gets brighter,
The longer I serve Him,
The sweeter He grows.
Chorus

I wrote a blog on April 3 about the decades of my life.
I wrote a similar blog on April 16

BONUS SONG

I like the words of a good old Gaither song: “We’ll soon be done with troubles and trials.”

We’ll Soon Be Done With Troubles And Trials
Bill & Gloria Gaither

Some of these days I’m going home where no sorrows ever come
We’ll soon be done with troubles and trials
Safe from heartache pain and care we shall all that glory share.
Then I’m gonna sit down beside my Jesus
Sit down and rest a little while.

We’ll Soon Be Done With Troubles And Trials
Yes in that home on the side
Shake glad hands with the elders tell my kindred good morning
Sit down beside my Jesus
Sit down and rest a little while.

I shall behold His blessed face I shall feel His matchless grace
We’ll Soon Be Done With Troubles And Trials
Oh what Peace and joy sublime in that home of love divine
Then I’m gonna sit down beside my Jesus
Sit down and rest a little while.
