Sharing Love in Cuba

September 27, 2012 (Thursday)
”picLast evening I heard a report from church members in Rockport of a mission trip they took to Cuba in July. The first week was spent on an island three hours from the Cuban mainland by ferry boat. The island has marble mountains. The group from the U.S.A. held a camp for 250 Cuban children, featuring Vacation Bible School, a daily meal and snacks. The children were all well-behaved and genuinely appreciative of the slightest kindness, loving the little things shared with them by the missionaries.
A fellow Christian not connected to the group from Rockport, reports in his web articles that a million Cubans have come to Christ during the last decade. Our group found thriving churches, active pastors and strong believers in the places where they went to share the love of Christ.
Tourists from other countries could be seen all over Cuba. But the evidence of poverty was everywhere. Food is scarce and rations are scant. The people are living under less than desirable conditions.
I’m not a politician and am aware that there is much about government and a country’s relationship with other nations of which I am ignorant, but I would hope for the day when Cuba’s people have the necessities of life and better economic conditions. The fact that Cuban churches are growing and many people are becoming Christians is encouraging.
