He’s back to being Fake.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 (THURSDAY) – In Tuesday’s blog I wrote about having wanted to be an actor in my youth. Dale Pogue wrote a poem about my mythical acting career. He didn’t give it a title, so I will: “A Reel Fake.” I share it with you today.

He aspired to be an actor, performing on the stage;
Actors, then , like Gable, really were the rage.
He headed off to Broadway, seeking future fame,
However he soon recognized he’d have to change his name.
He needed one with glamour, a name people could feel
And finally decided, “I’ll be Sir Charles Reel” !
Broadway soon accepted him. Sir Charles became a star!
Critics claimed his talent, on stage he’d go real far..
Ministry, however, still tugged upon his soul
He knew, deep down inside him, to preach should be his goal.
A Shakespeare part they gave him.On stage Carnegie Hall;
This was the break he needed. That night he gave his all.
It was a grand performance. His role fit him real fine,
Until a Freudian “slip” caused him to blow a line.
“Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend thou to me an ear,
I came to bury Caesar. Forsooth, bring out his bier.”
The audience fell silent, then stood and shook the floor.
Boos came from the people. Soon it was a roar.
“Get him off the stage!!!” So went his last big break.
No longer was he Reel. He’s back to being Fake.
Soon he was in to preaching; that which he did best.
His people loved to hear him, his sermons passed the test!
A little lady summed it up, “You have a certain feel;
a stage-like way of saying things that makes it all so…..Reel!”

Thanks, Dale. Your friendship means the world to me.
I can rest easy, now. The Muse has spoken, and spoke
about me.
