How Can I Help?

My pastor needs my help

”picYou make a phone call and it is answered by a pleasant voice that identifies itself and asks, “How may I help you?” The salesman in the store might ask you the same question, or the sweet person behind the information counter at the hospital. It’s a good thing to say if you really want to help someone.
The church I am serving as interim pastor will have a new pastor on the field September 9. The wonderful members of this church are probably asking themselves already, “How may I help my new pastor?” Here are a few ideas*:

1. I can pray for my pastor.
2. I can be reasonable in my expectations.
3. I can help my church to compensate him appropriately.
4. I can respect his privacy and time.
5. I can let him and his wife know that I appreciate them.

These 5 ideas only scratch the surface as to specific things I can do to help my new pastor do his job well. Each of us is uniquely equipped to bless others in special ways. “The Gifts of the Holy Spirit” leave out no church member–each is qualified to help the pastor by being faithful in the exercise of his/her gift. Just for your own edification, take a good look at the 5 things listed here and add your own ideas to the list.
