Why Are You Here?

July 29, 2020 (Wednesday)

I remember as a kid working on jig saw puzzles. One of my puzzles became a painting of Wall Street in an earlier era. My grandmother was so proud of me that she put it in a nice frame and hung it in the living room. She and my grandfather moved several times later in life and the completed puzzle hung in their home every time.

I do not know what happened to it after they passed on. It was probably added to the trash. It looked like one painting, but it was in reality a collection of pieces. I think God’s plan is like that; it includes all of us doing our part, fulfilling our purpose, producing one great result: the world as God wants it.

We are big believers in life having a purpose. What is your purpose in life? What is mine? The way many folks see it, God is putting together a giant jig saw puzzle and every one of us has a place on the board. If my piece is not in place, there is a vacancy and the picture created by the puzzle is incomplete, also not very attractive.

“The Purpose Driven Life” is a Bible study book written by pastor Rick Warren and published by Zondervan in 2002. The book offers readers a 40-day personal spiritual journey and presents what Warren says are God’s five purposes for human life on Earth. The hunger for such a book is made clear by the demand for it, because it because the number one best seller in many nations and was responsible for his becoming a wealthy man. He stopped receiving a salary from his church and became a philanthropist instead.

Why such a demand for a book about your purpose in life? It shows that there are many more people interested in the subject than one would have thought.

Are you in your place, interlocked with others, in God’s great jigsaw puzzle (His Great Plan)?

It Pays to Serve Jesus
(The Service of Jesus True Pleasure Affords)
Author: Frank C.Huston (1871-1959)
1909

1. The service of Jesus true pleasure affords,
In Him there is joy without an alloy;
’Tis Heaven to trust Him and rest on His words;
It pays to serve Jesus each day.

Refrain:
It pays to serve Jesus, it pays every day,
It pays every step of the way,
Though the pathway to glory may sometimes be drear,
You’ll be happy each step of the way.

2. It pays to serve Jesus whate’er may betide,
It pays to be true whate’er you may do;
’Tis riches of mercy in Him to abide;
It pays to serve Jesus each day.

3. Tho’ sometimes the shadows may hang o’er the way,
And sorrows may come to beckon us home,
Our precious Redeemer each toil will repay;
It pays to serve Jesus each day.
