Something new..
November 17, 2011 (Thursday)
Dwight and I went to a concert performed by the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra recently. We heard beautiful music throughout the wonderful evening. We have been to several of these presentations and have enjoyed them all.
This time the finale of the program was Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. I never tire of hearing it. It gets better with age.
We did something different on this visit to hear the classical music presentations. We sat in the upper balcony behind the orchestra. From our vantage point we could look down and see every member of the orchestra. We also had the privilege of seeing the face of the conductor as he directed the orchestra.
On separate occasions we have sat in various places in the concert hall and have seen the orchestra from different perspectives–front and center, front and side, lower balcony, upper balcony, etc. Each angle gives a unique viewpoint and affects the way we hear the music.
It occurs to me that life is like that. Two people can see the same thing from different perspectives and come away with different descriptions of the same event. Actually, it happens every day. All sorts of things affect the way we think and the way in which we view what’s happening. It behooves all of us, therefore, to give due consideration to the other person’s point of view. Having an open mind gives us the opportunity to learn something new. It might be a good idea for us to take a different approach the next time we have the opportunity of getting into a big argument. We might try listening and evaluating from the other person’s perspective. We can always learn something new, and we’ll be glad when we do.
