Politics

Get ready for more of it

August 11, 2011 (Thursday)
”picIn addition to the candidates for president that have already made their candidacy known, several others are joining the group this week. It follows, then, that we can be sure that the race to win in November 2012 (15 months from now) is already very much with us. The gun has sounded and the race is on even though some of the horses have not yet made it to the starting gate.
Once again we will be treated to the electoral process in all its glory. Prepare yourselves.
When Standard and Poor lowered America’s credit rating, it made this statement: “We lowered our long-term rating on the U.S. because we believe that the prolonged controversy over raising the statutory debt ceiling and the related fiscal policy debate indicate that further near-term progress containing the growth in public spending, especially on entitlements, or on reaching an agreement on raising revenues is less likely than we previously assumed and will remain a contentious and fitful process.”
“A contentious and fitful process” seems to be the normal way of conducting politics these days. We can look for that process to continue.
Meanwhile, the Lord has a word for us and our politics: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV).
