God’s man — God’s plan
July 22,2011 (Friday)
Last week’s blogs were about Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. You probably have no trouble remembering that Joseph was responsible for Jacob’s family relocating in Egypt. After many generations, however, Jacob’s descendants fell upon hard times in Egypt. Their numbers were so great, the Egyptians feared them, so they enslaved them. In response to their prayers, God sent a deliverer to them: Moses.
Moses was a very special person, for though he was born a Hebrew, circumstances of his infancy resulted in his being reared in Pharaoh’s household, a miraculous turn of events. Moses came to understand that he was to play a role in leading the Hebrew people, but an unwise move on his part led to his becoming a fugitive in the land of Midian, where he married and tended sheep for many years.
At the age of 80, God called Moses from a burning bush to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt into the Promised Land. God performed miracles to enable Moses to do the job he was called to do. Because of the rebellion of the people, however, he was not able to lead them into the land of promise, and they were condemned to wander in the wilderness for forty years. By the time Moses became 120 years old, a generation had passed and a new one took its place. It would be up to a new leader, Joshua, to lead them in conquest of the new land.
Moses was indispensable to God’s plan for his special people. He proved himself wise and strong–a great leader. God always chooses just the right person and just the right time. Moses certainly deserves an honored place in the history of God’s people and the plan of redemption for all people.
