Give it first priority
April 7, 2011 (Thursday)
Here’s what Jesus said: “Seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). It’s another way of saying, “Be spiritually-minded.” Think about spiritual things. Think about God first, before anything else.
Thinking about God first gets our priorities in order. Spiritual-mindedness brings real joy. We no longer make excuses for not serving God; instead, we happily plunge into His service and give Him our very best.
Thinking about God first cures our worry habit. We worry because we’re afraid of loss and tied down because of uncertainty, forgetting our faith in God and our strong belief that God cares about us and will help us. Putting God first in our thinking helps to end these weaknesses.
Thinking about God first causes us to become expectant beings, trusting God to supply our needs. We can live on a higher plane of life because we know that God is with us.
“Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear? For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all. But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides” (Matthew 6:31-33 Amplified Bible).
