A Living Nightmare
March 16, 2011 (Wednesday)
It is said that Japan is probably the best-prepared nation in the world, in the face of natural disaster. Yet the magnitude of this series of events — earthquake, tsunami, nuclear fallout — boggles the imagination. This is a nightmare we are seeing while wide awake. Consequently, many governments, agencies and individuals want to help.
Japan’s own search and rescue team was in New Zealand, assisting with recovery from the recent Christchurch earthquake, when the 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami struck on Friday. Now others are in Japan, helping to rescue and aid those affected by this disaster. So far, 91 countries and regions and 6 international organizations have extended offers of assistance.
If you want to help, you may find helpful information in this article, which lists many organizations that will provide aid of various kinds:

You may want to help through the Texas Baptist Men organization, which will work with Southern Baptist Global Response, a Southern Baptist organization, and direct its efforts toward a response that will be effective, meet needs in overlooked areas and help strengthen the witness of Japanese believers to hope in Christ. In the meantime, we can all pray for the people directly affected by this tragic series of events.
