Let Us Go On Singing

April 26, 2020 (Sunday)

Stuart Hamblen gave us the song, “It Is No Secret (What God Can Do),” and “This Old House,” as we as “Beyond the Sunset.” Did you know he is the author and composer of “Until Then?” This is a tremendous song of faith, looking forward to Heaven itself. It is in several hymnals and has been recorded by an astounding number of famous artists. I’ve chosen to play his own recording of his song. If you like the song, you can look it up on YouTube and you will discover many, many recordings of it by singer after singer.

This song not only reminds us of the joys of Heaven; it also describes the journey as a Christian through this life. Jesus gives us a home in Heaven and an abundant life on this earth. Stuart Hamblen did a great job of showing all that to us in this song.

As the words of this song tell us, Christ gives us a heart that will go on singing until we reach the gates of Heaven. With joy we will carry on in this life, with the Lord’s help overcoming every trial.

UNTIL THEN
Stuart Hamblen
1950s

My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along a trail that’s winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.

The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they’re borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.

This weary world with all its toil and struggle
May take its toll of misery and strife;
The soul of man is like a waiting falcon;
When it’s released, it’s destined for the skies.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
