Learning to Lean

March 22, 2020 (Sunday)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”
(Proverbs 3:5 NIV).

In the early 1980s the First Baptist Church of Rockport invited a minister who had come from Scotland. He and his wife made their home in the United States and were evangelists. They did a great job and we had a good revival meeting for a week under their leadership. He taught us a hymn, “Learning to Lean.” I am including that hymn in today’s blog.

LEARNING TO LEAN
Words and Music by John Stallings
1976

Learning to Lean,
Learning to Lean,
I’m learning to lean on Jesus.
Finding more power than I’ve ever dreamed,
I’m learning to lean on Jesus.

Sad, broken hearted, at an altar I knelt,
I found peace that was so serene,
And all that He asks is a childlike trust,
And a heart that is learning to lean.

Learning to Lean,
Learning to Lean,
I’m learning to lean on Jesus.
Finding more power than I’ve ever dreamed,
I’m learning to lean on Jesus.

We are learning something else on this Sunday: how to worship online.
Our church, First Baptist Church, Rockport, Texas, will live stream a worship service today at 10:00 a.m. The church has dismissed all church activities for the two-weeks ending next Sunday, March 29. The system was tested last Sunday and the services were recorded on You Tube. I watched the recording. The Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside also tested the same idea and I watched their services also. I also watched the live stream of the Wednesday, March 18, evening service from the church at 6:00 p.m. I enjoyed Marcie’s songs and the pastor’s message. He encouraged us to believe in Jesus and love Him for who He is–not for what He can do for us. A great message.

Communicating online is not new. We did it when I was a kid. Did you?
