the Name above all names
December 6, 2010 (Monday)
We are reminded every day in many ways that we are in the Christmas season. For the true believer in Jesus as Savior, it is a time for us to focus our attention upon Him. Isaiah 9:6 tells us much about Him: “..for to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His name is Wonderful because our minds and hearts are filled with wonder at the very thought of His coming to earth as a baby in Bethlehem.
He is called Wonderful Counselor because He is in every way qualified to advise us and provide advocacy in our behalf.
He is The Mighty God. The gospel of John says He was in the beginning with God, and He was God. A great mystery surrounds the three persons of the eternal Godhead. Our God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–three, yet one.
He is The Everlasting Father. Jesus told us, “I and the Father are One.” The Jesus whose advent into this world we celebrate is God incarnate.
He is The Prince of Peace. Jesus gives us peace within our own hearts and shows us how to have peace with each other. All this is based upon the peace with God that we have through Him.
“Jesus, Oh how sweet the name.”
