Jesus, I Come

March 24, 2020 (Tuesday)

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”
(Matthew 11:28-30 King James Version (KJV)

Jesus invites everyone to follow Him, and “whosoever will” may come. The hymn, “Jesus, I Come,” can be considered a response to the invitation of Jesus.

When we come to Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we are set free from sin’s bondage, we are comforted in our sorrows, and we emerge from the darkness of sin into the light of God. He sets us free to live the best life, fills our hearts with gladness, and illuminates our path. He heals our wounded souls, becomes our “Great Physician,” and gives spiritual health. He gives spiritual riches in the place of spiritual poverty, and delivers us from our selfishness so that we may focus on Him and His will for us.

When we come to Jesus, He makes everything better in our lives and prepares our Heavenly home, where we shall behold His glory throughout eternity.

Jesus, I Come
Words: William T. Sleeper
Music: George C. Stebbins
1887

Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of my sickness, into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of earth’s sorrows, into Thy balm,
Out of life’s storms and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair, into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the joy and light of Thy home,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
