God is great

God is good

”picOnly recently in the world’s history have there been vehicles that can dive deeply enough to explore the very depths of the oceans. And they are deep. The Marianna Trench is over seven miles below sea level. The creatures that inhabit the deep waters had never before been seen by humans. Now we can sit in front of our television sets and view videos of these animals. The light is provided by the diving vessel, because at 450 feet below the surface there is only darkness. Many of the critters swimming about down there produce their own light, like the fireflies we all have seen. The luminescence of the deep sea dwellers, however, is quite a show, much more complicated than the firefly’s flash. Scientists have been astounded and surprised by the great variety of life in the ocean depths.
As the telescopes scan the heavens and see worlds we never knew existed, the submersible vessels explore the oceans below, finding creatures we did not know were there. This is still the age of discovery.
We are exploring the heavens and the depths of the oceans, and constantly discovering new facts about the rest of our world, but probably the most fascinating explorations of all involve human beings. We still have a lot to learn about ourselves.
Some folks believe that biology is the sum total of human existence, but there are millions of us who believe there is more to us than that. We are spiritual beings. The Bible tells us that God created us in His own image. What does that mean? It means we have mind, will and emotion. We can know of God’s existence, and we can learn of His love.
“[I].. get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-19 MSG).
