Something new

..at least to me..

”picLast Saturday night, Dwight and I attended a concert by the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. A husband and wife who both play in the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra are friends of Dwight, so we felt a little like “insiders”.
We enjoyed the concert. It was a little different from the average presentation, because it featured a famous bandoneonist, Daniel Binelli, of Argentina. He performed a Concerto written especially for the Bandoneon and Orchestra by Astor Piazzolla.
The bandoneon is a unique instrument, similar to a concertina. The presentations brought standing ovations from the audience. The listeners had a deep respect for the talent and skill of the performer, whose music was on a par with the great classical works of the masters.
You have probably heard Mr. Binelli’s music in the background of movies you have seen. For instance, one of his movies was “Last Tango In Paris.”
There you have it. I am now an experienced listener to music from the bandoneon. Before Saturday, I don’t think I had ever heard the word. Now, at my age, I have seen something new to me, and heard selections of music I never heard before. We are never too old to experience new things. That’s one of the secrets of health and enjoyment of life at any age. At least that’s what I’ve been told, and I believe it’s so.
