Do your best

Do it now

”picThe Apostle Paul was in prison, facing death. Only Luke was with him. He pleaded with young Timothy to do his best to come to him quickly and bring his cloke and books. Timothy felt the urgency and we feel sure he acted immediately, before it was too late.
We all have those times when we can help somebody who genuinely needs our help, but the window of opportunity will not be open very long. It is now or never.
We like to think that Timothy boarded the next ship and made it to Rome and Paul’s prison cell as soon as possible. Timothy was that kind of person, and Paul knew he could depend upon him.
We dare not pass by these moments in our life without doing something. We must do our best while we can. Jesus warned us that “the night comes when no one can work.”
An old hymn puts in in perspective:
“Hear ye the Master’s call: give me thy best! For be it great or small, that is His test! Do then the best you can, not for reward, not for the praise of man, but for the Lord!”

From 2 Timothy 4:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:..Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: .. The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments..Do thy diligence to come before winter.”
