Rain

Lots of it

September 20, 2010 (Monday)
”picThe Corpus Christi Caller-Times, on July 28, 2009, published an article headed, “Texas Scorched by Worst Drought in 50 Years.” The article said, “Crop and Livestock Losses Reach $3.6 Billion, and Tourism Industry Takes a Hit.”
I think it can safely be said that the drought is now over. There has been so much rain here in Rockport lately, that one wonders what the outcome of it will be. As I watch the rain fall each day, I think of a movie poster from my childhood that read, “The Rains Came.”
Rain has been falling for several days and the forecast is for more rain all this week.
I’m afraid only Goldilocks found everything “just right.” The rest of us do with less or adjust to more. And yet, life is great. Isn’t it great to be alive? May we never take life for granted. Only last week, we lost a dear friend who was suddenly taken from us, without warning.
Let us remember what the Scriptures tell us: “Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that’ ” (James 4:13-15 NIV).
A little boy said, “No!” when asked if he wanted to go to Heaven. Later he explained that he thought they were getting up a load for “right now.” I suppose we all feel the same way. We’re ready to go, but willing to stay, if that’s the Lord’s will. Our lives are in His hands. We’re just thankful for each new day He gives us by His grace.
Rain or shine, flood or drought, this is a good day.
