His Family?
August 2, 2010 (Monday)
Jesus was working constantly, not even taking time to eat. His mother and brothers were concerned about him and said, “He’s out of his mind!” (Mark 3:21). So they took a little trip to the house where He was teaching and healing, and sent a message to him to come out and talk with them. When told his mother and brothers wanted to see Him outside, He replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then he looked at those seated in a circle around Him and said, “Here are my mother and brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother” (Mark 3:34).
Without entering the arena of the family dispute, let’s take a look at what Jesus said, and draw some lessons from His words.
If you are a part of His family, you have a new kind of life. Now you seek to do the will of God instead of your own. You have a “family resemblance.”
If you are a part of His family, you have a new family made up of your fellow believers. You can sing, “I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God” and mean every word.
If you are a part of His family, you have a new relationship with God. You are God’s child. You can readily identify with that song, “I’m a child of the King.”
