Be kind

Everyone is having a hard time

”pic Like yesterday’s blog about Carole King and James Taylor, this one is about being a friend when it really counts.
I happened to get in on most of the TCM movie, “Tomorrow is Forever,” the other night, and really enjoyed the performances of Claudette Colbert, Orson Welles, Natalie Wood and other famous actors. At the end of the program, the host, Robert Osborne, told the T.V. audience that Claudette Colbert, at one time the highest paid actor in Hollywood, had insisted on Orson Welles as her co-star in the movie. At that time, Welles was somewhat in disfavor among the movie moguls, because his masterpiece, “Citizen Kane,” had disappointed RKO by producing hardly any profit. Ms. Colbert insisted, and would not take “no” for an answer, and her going to bat for her friend paid off. The movie showcased Welles’ considerable talents, and his career was affected favorably. Another instance of what being a friend can mean. Claudette Colbert was a real friend to Orson Welles.
My heart is touched when I read of a person going “the second mile” to help someone, or to do something nice for them. We need more of that in our world. There will never be enough. There will always be room for one more act of kindness.
Here’s what “The Good Book” says: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:31-32 NIV).
